Tricks to carck GATE 2014

Tips and Tricks to carck GATE 2014

  • Aim for taking GATE exam varies from candidate to candidate. Students from private  engineering colleges try to get into M.Tech in order to have stamp of the better known institutions and for them reasonable percentile serves the purpose. On the other hand, students studying in well established institutes may aim to get into IIT or other equivalent institutions. For them very high percentile is essential.
  • Normally 3 to 4 months of serious study will be sufficient for the preparation.
  • Those students who are in final year have to schedule their studies as semester exam in winter and other engagements may absorb lot of time.
  • First of all make a proper strategy before starting preparation of the examination.
  • You have to choose the subject and study as per the syllabus mentioned in the GATE brochure.
  • Collect the Syllabus for the GATE exam.
  • Collect all the relevant books for the subject. This collection must include the books for Fundamental and basic concepts as well as for specific problems, guide book for GATE and previous year question papers.
  • Always try to go through the standard books which are easily available and in which you can easily understand the concepts. This will improve your learning ability.
  • Mean time you should be in touch with some GATE experienced persons for proper guidance.
  • Read syllabus and question papers carefully so that it will easy for you to make a proper approach.
  • Start preparing from the initial topics i.e. the basic ones and note down the basic concepts (definitions, unit, dimension etc.) as well as necessary theories, formulae etc.
  • Try to solve as many problems as possible from different book as well as try to find more and more tricks.
  • Try to apply your own logics and tricks in solving problems and note it down because it will save your time in the examination hall.
  • Conduct self tests based on various chapters. Continue the self tests and try to achieve a very good score.
  • Practice more and more problems and follow the same procedure for the rest of the chapters and subjects.
  • Finally, go for self tests based on whole syllabus and if necessary take help of others in conducting self-tests.
  • To do all these things one has to spend lots of time on studies and should be very sincere throughout the preparation.
  • One month before the examination you should start revising the course as many times as possible so that on the day
before the exam you will be prepared enough to crack the exam.
  • In the revision stage concentrate more on the selected topics.
  • Always reach the examination centre 30 min before the start of the exam. It helps you to stay cool and calm during exam.
  • Keep all your necessary stationeries and admit card with you before going to the examination centre.
  • During exam try to attempt section A which is compulsory and that to Q1 carrying one mark each and those in Q2 carrying two marks each.
  • It’s very important to manage the time well during the exam. So manage the time well during the exam.
  • In the examination hall one should not get panickly upon receiving the question paper rather candidates should stay cool before the test so that they do not get confused while attempting the paper.
  • Time management is important but not at the cost of answering the paper accurately.
  • Always try to attempt only those questions in which you are pretty confident and you know the answer very well.
  • Read the questions carefully and apply proper logic before marking the answer.
  • Always avoid the negative marking.
  • Do not attempt unnecessary questions in which you are not confident because that may cost you much.
  • Do not try to get hold of the entire syllabus prescribed by GATE. A selective preparation would be a very helpful concept and should be learned accurately.
  • Memorization of any problem without a clear idea of the concept will be a futile exercise.
  • I feel that it is better to have flexible time plan before going to exam and have a balance of mind. It helps in avoiding the silly mistakes.
  • Results of qualified candidates in GATE will give All India Rank and indicate percentile score. For example, a percentile score of 99 means you are in the top 1% category of the candidates who appeared for GATE.
  • Candidates who get less than 70 percentile get no score card.
  • After publication of GATE results, students must apply to individual Institutes to get their application forms.
  • Institutes advertise M.Tech admissions in leading newspapers from 1st April till end July. However some Institutes do not advertise and therefore students have to get the forms themselves.
  • Admission in the Institute is based on GATE percentile.
  • The concerned Institute may conduct written test and/or interview for the purpose of admission.
  • During the pursuit of M.Tech, you are paid a scholarship of Rs. 5000 per month by the Government of India. This amount is enough for living expenses including purchase of books etc. the scholarship is paid for the entire period of M.Tech.

DTMF based mini projects

This telephone-operated calling circuit is very helpful for doctors in calling the patients, in banks and in various other situations where persons have to be called or signalled. When you need to call a person amongst many standing outside your cabin, just lift the telephone handset off the cradle and press the respective number. The number of the person called will be displayed and a bell will sound to inform the person that it is his turn.

Dual-tone multiple-frequency (DTMF) receiver IC is commonly used in telephone equipment. One common DTMF receiver is Holtek HT9170 used in electronic communication circuits. The Holtek HT9170 series comprises DTMF receivers integrated with digital decoder and bandsplit filter functions. All HT9170 series ICs use digital counting techniques to detect and decode all the 16 DTMF tone pairs into a 4-bit code output. The circuit can also be used in quiz contests and by visually- or hearingimpaired people. It can be used to call a maximum of nine different persons. The circuit is built around DTMF receiver IC HT9170, BCD-to-7-segment decoder/driver 7447, quad 2-input OR gate and common-anode display. Simple melody generator IC UM66 is used to produce melody sound in the loudspeaker through Darlington-pair transistors (T1 and T2).The tone pair DTMF generated by pressing the telephone key is converted into binary values internally in the IC. The binary values are indicated by the glowing of LEDs at the output of IC1.

The output of IC1 is connected to:
LEDs connected via resistors R15 through R18 at pins 11 through 14, respectively. LED1 indicates the LSB and LED4 indicates the MSB.
·        BCD-to-7-segment decoder/ driver 7447, whose outputs are connected to the common-anode display for displaying the pressed number on the telephone connected in parallel to the circuit.
·        Gates N1 and N2 to activate the call bell.

Here is how the circuit works: Connect the telephone and the circuit in parallel to the telephone line. Connect 6V to the circuit. When you press switch S1, DIS1 shows ‘0.’ Lift the handset off the cradle and dial a number, say, ‘1.’ The output of IC1 becomes A3A2A1A0 = 0001. LED1 glows, the display shows ‘1’ and the call bell sounds. To stop the call bell, put the receiver on the cradle and press switch S1 momentarily. Now DIS1 shows ‘0’ and LED1 stops glowing. For calling other numbers, follow the same procedure: Lift the handset off the cradle and press the desired number (0 through 9). The respective LED will glow, the number will be displayed on DIS1 and the call bell will sound. Now put the handset on the cradle and press S1 momentarily to stop the call bell.

GATE Preparation Tips

Preparation for GATE Examination:

There is no requirement of preparing separately for the GATE Exam, if you pursue your university’s educational work well, then that’s more than sufficient. GATE doesn't require any short trick to solve the questions because it provides very sufficient time to complete the paper, and paper is logical so you have to apply basic of your knowledge.

The preparation for the GATE exam should not be initiated in 3rd or 4th year of graduation. Instead it must be started in the 1st year of college. Reading text books and cracking math problems at the reverse of each lesson has to be developed as a habit. This kind of practice gives you solid foundation not just for GATE exam but also for any kind of entrance exam or PSU’s.

Careful preparation is the answer to GATE examination.

Do not attend many questions:

In GATE examination you’re not expected to attempt all the questions. If you can attempt just thirty to forty questions on an average with high accuracy you’ll surely succeed in GATE Examination with high scores.

In GATE examination it is not vital, what amount of questions you attempted but what number of questions you correctly attempted. It has to be kept in wits that negative scoring plays a significant part in marking process. When you don’t comprehend any question it is not wise to attempt such questions as lots of times it may lead you to negative scoring. You test your luck by attempting simple question which contain small marks.

Join coaching or not ??

Coaching for preparing GATE is absolutely not required it only provides a direction for the examination but we will set your direction to your Goal. Mock examinations will aid to create the examination atmosphere, so you can join test series of any coaching.

Common Tips While Attempting the Questions:

In GATE examination, the basics & reasoning aptitude proficiency of the aspirant is tested. GATE examination includes negative scoring, so while answering the questions lots of concentration is required.

Similar to any examination it includes a blend of simple, tricky, and extremely hard questions. In GATE examination time is not a big thing. Sufficient quantity of time is offered to attempt the questions. So it’ll be advantage to attempt the questions in two to three rounds.

Attempt your Gate paper in some rounds:

In round one, complete question paper has to be examined and simple and extremely simple questions (easy theory questions and small mathematical problems) should be solved.
In round two & three tricky questions has to be faced and solved.

Note: Easy, sharp preparation and careful answering is the access & success to GATE examination.
